No Office Visit Needed To File

Mandatory Credit Counseling

As part of the Bankruptcy process, you must complete credit counseling with a certified Credit Counseling agency. Counseling must occur within 180 days prior to filing a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy or Chapter 13 Bankruptcy, and a certificate of counseling completion must accompany your petition. The Credit Counseling agency must have been approved by the U.S. Trustee's office. Contact attorney Frank G. Cortese to receive a list of approved credit-counseling agencies.

Credit Counseling costs approximately $30 and can be paid over the phone or over the internet.

Typical Credit Counseling involves a discussion of your finances, determining a realistic budget and an evaluation of whether Bankruptcy is the right alternative for you. The Credit Counseling course may be completed in person, over the internet or over the phone.
